Quick answer
+92 is Pakistan. Pakistani mobiles typically start 3 after the country code (so +92 3…). A +92 call or WhatsApp video can be family - the UK has a large Pakistani-born population - or a stranger using the "wrong number" video-call opener. Do not ring back a +92 number that called once and hung up. EE's published standard rate to Pakistan, checked 8 September 2026, is £4.64 a minute.
What a +92 number looks like
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority numbering plan uses +92 plus the national number with the leading 0 dropped.
| Domestic Pakistani number | What you see | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 03xx mobiles | +92 3… | Mobile |
| 021 | +92 21 | Karachi landline |
| 042 | +92 42 | Lahore |
| 051 | +92 51 | Islamabad / Rawalpindi |
| 041 | +92 41 | Faisalabad |
0092 is the same code from a UK landline.

Who genuinely calls from a Pakistani number
ONS country-of-birth figures have long placed Pakistan among the largest non-UK-born populations in England. Family calls, students, and businesses with offices in both countries generate a lot of ordinary +92 traffic - voice, SMS and WhatsApp.
A +92 call that fits a relative, a trip, or a company you already deal with is often real. A +92 call that starts the relationship and wants money, codes or a video chat with a stranger is the one to refuse.
A Pakistani mobile roaming in the UK still shows +92 3…. Calling it back is an international call. Family WhatsApp from +92 is so common that a voice call on the ordinary phone app can feel more suspicious than it is - use the same test as any other country: were you expecting this person, and did they leave a message?
+92 WhatsApp video calls
This is the pattern that dominates related searches.
WhatsApp calls bypass your mobile network's spam labelling. A +92 video call can be:
- A relative whose WhatsApp is registered to a Pakistani mobile - the default way a lot of UK–Pakistan families talk.
- A "wrong number, you have a nice face, let's chat" opener used in romance and investment scams. UK and overseas consumer-protection coverage (Action Fraud, and press reports that have cited PTA / cybercrime warnings in Pakistan) describe the same script: video call, flattery, move the conversation to a "trading" app or a request for money.
WhatsApp's own guidance is to use Silence unknown callers (Settings → Privacy) so only people in your contacts can ring you, and to report and block accounts that do this. A video call is not identity. Never send money, codes, nudes or remote-access access because a +92 WhatsApp caller asked.
Other scam patterns
- One-ring / Wangiri. A +92 number rings once. Returning it on a £4.64-a-minute tariff is the product. See Wangiri.
- UK-bank or delivery impersonation from a +92 number. Genuine UK organisations do not call from Pakistan. Hang up; 159 for a UK bank.
- Ofcom's overseas-call rules (2024 onwards) make it harder to present a UK landline ID from abroad, which is one reason more of these calls now show +92 instead of a spoofed 0161.
What ringing back a +92 number costs
A callback to Pakistan is international and almost never in your UK minutes.
EE's published standard rate to Pakistan, checked on 8 September 2026 at ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/call-abroad/countries/pakistan, is £4.64 a minute to mobiles and landlines (98p a text). EE's International Pass / Extra add-ons list Pakistan at a much lower rate. Without one, a two-minute callback is more than nine pounds. O2, Vodafone and Three publish their own guides - check yours.
WhatsApp calls use data, not that per-minute rate. They can still be a scam; they are just a cheaper one to receive.
How to handle a +92 call
- Were you expecting anyone in Pakistan? Family, a trip, a company you use?
- WhatsApp from unknown +92: do not answer; silence unknown callers; never send money.
- Don't call back a one-ring missed call.
- A "UK organisation" on +92 is a hang-up.
- Never share PINs, passwords, one-time codes or bank details on an inbound call.
- Block and report - 7726, Action Fraud, and WhatsApp's in-app report. On iPhone and Android you can block the voice number from Recents; on WhatsApp, block and report the account separately. They are two different lists. If +92 one-ring calls keep arriving on the phone app, ask your network about international-call barring.
The bottom line
A +92 call is Pakistani. Between family and WhatsApp, many into the UK are genuine. The expensive mistakes are returning a one-ring missed call on a multi-pound-a-minute tariff, and trusting a stranger's +92 video call. For India see who called me from a +91 number; for the wider list see who called me from an international number.

Someone presenting a Pakistani number - family, a business, or a scam using Pakistani caller ID.
Why am I getting WhatsApp video calls from +92?
Either a relative whose WhatsApp is a Pakistani mobile, or a stranger using the wrong-number video-call script. Silence unknown callers if you do not want the latter.
