On an iPhone or Android the number may show as `+34 612 345 678`, `0034 612345678` or a WhatsApp contact named only with digits. They are the same Spanish mobile. Some UK networks also strip the + and show `34 6…`. That is still Spain, not a UK 0345 number (0345 is a UK-wide 03 range).

Scam patterns tied to +34
The one-ring / Wangiri pattern is the main risk: a +34 number rings once and hopes you call back. Ofcom's international missed-call advice applies. Spanish consumer bodies have run their own campaigns against "llamadas perdidas" that exist to trigger an expensive return call.
A second pattern is a "UK bank / HMRC / delivery" script on a +34 number. Genuine UK organisations do not call from Spain. Hang up; 159 for a UK bank.
Holiday season produces a third, smaller pattern: a caller who knows you recently searched for a villa or flight and tries to take a card payment on an inbound call. Even if the number is Spanish, pay only through the booking site or a number printed on your confirmation.
Prefix 965 (Alicante / Costa Blanca) and similar tourist-area landlines show up in "who called me" threads because so many UK visitors have a reason to be called from there. The prefix tells you the area, not whether the caller is your hotel or a callback scam. Context still decides it.

WhatsApp from +34 is an account registered to a Spanish number - the default way a lot of people in Spain call the UK. It is also a common "wrong number" opener. Silence unknown callers, and never send money or codes because a +34 WhatsApp call asked.

- Read 6/7 vs 8/9. Mobile versus landline.

- Never share PINs, passwords, one-time codes or bank details on an inbound call.
