Two Burys, commercially

Bury has an industrial base built on textiles, paper, engineering and chemicals that is still very much alive in the estates around Pilsworth, Heap Bridge and the M66 corridor - modern distribution and manufacturing operations sitting alongside long-established family firms.

It also has one of the best-known market trading scenes in the North West, drawing visitors from well beyond the borough, plus a substantial independent retail, food and hospitality sector in the town centre, Ramsbottom and Prestwich. The Metrolink line into Manchester and the East Lancashire Railway both feed footfall in.

Why does Bury have a Manchester dialling code?

Bury sits within the 0161 area, which covers Greater Manchester including Bury, Bolton's fringes and Stockport. It reflects exchange geography rather than the town's Lancashire history. The code makes no difference to portability - the number moves with you.

Our card machine uses a phone line. What do we do?
