Vodafone splits balance checking by account type: pay as you go uses 2345 or *#1345#, pay monthly uses 44555. Both need to be dialled from the Vodafone phone itself.
The My Vodafone app shows the same information on its home screen without a call.

Vodafone does not publish a price for this code. As with 2345, Vodafone publishes the number and tells you to dial it from your own Vodafone phone with your four-digit PIN ready, but does not state a charge. We would rather say that than guess at “free” - the My Vodafone app shows the same balance at no cost either way.
